Uchegbu![]() Ijeoma Uchegbu is Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience at the UCL School of Pharmacy, University College London (UCL), Pro-Vice Provost for Africa and the Middle East, UCL and Chief Scientific Officer of Nanomerics. She obtained her PhD from the School of Pharmacy, University of London in 1994. In 2015, Ijeoma became UCL’s Pro-Vice Provost for Africa and The Middle East. Nanomerics was founded in 2010 by Ijeoma and Andreas G. Schätzlein. Nanomerics is a specialtiy pharmaceutical company focused on exploiting pharmaceutical nanotechnology platforms for medicines development. Ijeoma has been awarded various prizes for her work, notably the UK Department for Business Innovation Skills’ Women of Outstanding Achievement in Science Engineering and Technology award and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Pharmaceutical Scientist of the Year 2012. Ijeoma was elected to the Controlled Release Society College of Fellows in 2013 and became an Eminent Fellow of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2013.

Atta-ur-Rahman, FRS Honorary Life Fellow Kings College University of Cambridge Cambridge Biography Biography of Atta-ur-Rahman![]() Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman, Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Kings College, University of Cambridge (1968), has 1235 international publications in several fields of organic chemistry including, 349 books published largely by major U.S. and European presses. He was elected as Fellow of Royal Society (London) (2006) and won the prestigious UNESCO Science Prize (1999).Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman was conferred honorary D.Sc. degrees by many leading world universities including the University of Cambridge and appointed an Honorary Life Fellow of Kings College, University of Cambridge. The Austrian government honoured him with its high civil award (“Grosse Goldene Ehrenzeischen am Bande") (2007). He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Karachi, Pakistan. Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman was appointed Academician (Foreign Member) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2015). He won the “Friendship Award of China” (2014) and was conferred the highest scientific award of China, the International Science & Technology Cooperation Award, by President Xi Jinping (2020). He was bestowed with the International Scientific Corporation Award (2014) and the “Einstein Professorship” by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) (2013). He was also elected as Foreign Member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology. Research Institutes have been established in his name in China, Malaysia and Pakistan.

(ETH), Zürich, (Switzerland) and then joined the University of Navarra where presently she is Full
Professor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology.
Her research lay in the field of biomaterials and advanced drug carrier systems including the
design and the development of polymer and lipid based micro‐ and nanoscale carriers, their
biological evaluation in in vitro cell cultures (toxicity, mechanism of action, intracellular drug
release) and also their pharmacokinetic and dynamic impact in vivo (using relevant animal models
of the diseases).

She was awarded her M. Pharm, Ph. D and D.Sc. from the Royal Danish School of Pharmacy
in 1972, 1978 and 1988, respectively. Her research expertise is in the area of novel drug
